Ink Blot Challenge Results

Thank you to everyone who participated in our "Ink Blot Challenge." Congratulations Erin Wright! You won 3 free books at the Library's Book Sale.

In August the GMKL staff presented the "What Do You See?" display introducing the Rorschach Test, more commonly referred to as the "ink blot" test. Students and patrons were encouraged to reveal what they saw in the 10 ink blots. Interestingly, no one answer was repeated! Instead of the most common answers the GKML staff have decided on the following:

"Look at Me--I'm at the Library" Photo Event

The GKML is hosting a Photo Event on Thursday September 19^th from 11:00am-1:00pm and 4:00pm-6:00pm in the Information Commons.

Come to the library to have your photo taken and receive a free postcard to send home. Share your photo on the library’s “Study Wall” and you can become the new face of the library’s webpage.

The library will also officially announce the start of the 2^nd Annual Photo Contest on September 19^th. New submission guidelines and information about the library’s upcoming Instagram account will also be shared during the event.

Kistler Library Announces Saint John's Bible Display

“In 1998, Saint John's Abbey and University commissioned renowned calligrapher Donald Jackson to produce a hand-written, hand-illuminated Bible. We invite you to explore this work of art that unites an ancient Benedictine tradition with the technology and vision of today, illuminating the Word of God for a new millennium.” –saintjohnsbible.org

The exquisite artistry of the Saint John’s Bible is now on display in the Front Reading Room of the Library. The seven volume set contains seventy-three books of the Old and New Testament in total. Each volume focuses on key components of the Bible, combining them according to theme. The set includes the following titles: Psalms, Gospels and Acts, Letters and Revelation, Wisdom Books, Historical Books, Prophets, and Pentateuch.

If you are interested in learning more about the Saint John’s Bible and its creation, our library staff recommends Christopher Calderhead’s “Illuminating the Word: The Making of the Saint John’s Bible (Call Number: BS 191.5 C25 2005). From the Archives: Presidential Memorabilia

The Archives proudly presents "Presidential Memorabilia," an informative display on the lives of the
Presidents of Rosemont College. Located on the first floor of the Library, the display features letters, photographs, personal mementos, and other items of curiosity from the Archive collection relating to the lives of the College's Presidents.

The Archives team has also put together a compilation of Presidential biographies. The booklet begins with Mother Marie Joseph Dalton, who opened the College in 1921, and ends with President Sharon L. Hirsh, a Rosemont alumna. The biography will be available for viewing beginning Thursday August 29th at the Archive display.

What Do You See?

Come to the Library to visit our Psychology Themed Display, titled: What Do You See? The display introduces the Rorschach Test, more commonly referred to as the “Ink Blot” test.  The Rorschach test is used as a psychological character evaluation. Six of the most popular ink blots are displayed on the bulletin board. Test yourself against the most common answers. Search Credo Reference to learn more about the Rorschach Test and how it is used.

Located to the left of the “What Do You See” Board are 10 inkblots. Write down your answers and submit them for a chance to win 3 free books at the Book Sale OR tweet your favorite answer to @kistlerlibrary #inkblot for a chance to win 1 free book at the Book Sale.

We will reveal the most common answers for each of the 10 ink blots on Sept 26^th via this blog and announce the Book Sale winners.

New Journal Content Added to Project MUSE

Project MUSE has been expanding in recent months to bring you even more reliable, scholarly journals. Over 30 journals have been added to the collection over the past year, including:

Project MUSE is a full-text collection of over 500 scholarly, peer reviewed journals in the arts, humanities, and social sciences from over 120 university presses and scholarly societies.

Donations Needed for Children's Book Drive

Please join us in supporting the Children's Book Drive organized by CertaPro Painters of the Main Line. Bring gently used children's books to any of their five convenient drop-off locations in Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, or Wayne through August 31. The books will be distributed by Impact Services, a community development organization working with economically disadvantaged families in Philadelphia's Kensington neighborhood. Thanks to Rosemont MFA student Spencer Shaak for bringing this opportunity to help to our attention.
